In preparation for the 2024-’25 Rotary year, all incoming Club Presidents go through training (either locally, online or at another training event in the country). Many of your President-Elects (PEs) spent 2 ½ days going through PNW PETS (Pacific Northwest President-Elect Training Seminar) in February. They were joined with over 450 President-Elects from 9 other districts, which makes PNW PETS the largest Rotary President-Elect Training in the world! With trainers and senior leadership, we had over 650 people attend PNW PETS.

In a powerful showcase of community spirit and philanthropic innovation, District 5030 recently hosted its much-anticipated “ Philanthropy in a Box ” event. Held at the Good Roots location in Buckley, we had over 25 attendees, representing 50% of our clubs in 5030, showing up with enthusiasm and purpose, the event brought together remarkable individuals dedicated to making a difference in their communities. Among the distinguished speakers were Stacey Crnich, CEO of Good Roots, and Michael Schindler, Co-Executive Producer of “IT’S VUCA: The Secret to Living in the 21st Century” documentary.

It was only recently that the Rotary Club of Ballard learned that it had a new Title 1 school, Licton Springs K – 8, in the neighborhood. Title 1 schools are those in which at least 40% of its students are from low-income families. Upon opening Licton’s website to learn more about them I discovered that only 38% of their students met English and Language Arts (i.e. reading) standards in recent testing.

Over the years many groups and organizations in East King County have been working hard to address social challenges like homelessness and affordable housing. Despite all these efforts housing affordability, homelessness, and the wide-ranging impact on the community have only gotten worse. There are no simple answers to successfully address these challenges, but there are steps that can be taken if we truly want to address homelessness and affordable housing challenges.

There’s a high need for blood right now! There are many requests for surgery patients in our region. Perhaps they may even be a friend or family member of yours. When my husband went through cancer treatment he needed a blood transfusion. I was so surprised at that time. Now I know how important blood donations are. Please consider a donation when you are able. Thank you for all you have done to date. Bloodworks NW has sent this report to our Rotarians of District 5030.

We are excited to launch the next cohort for RISE (Rotarians Inspired to Succeed and Engage)! We’re encouraging clubs to use this program to attract and engage members by offering advanced leadership training and an experienced member from another club. The program cost is $150 per participant and each club can have up to 3 members in the program. The deadline for application is Monday, 4/1 and the application form is currently here . Last fall we had 17 members in our pilot session and our exit survey rated the program 4.7 (out of 5) stars.
