In the midst of global turmoil, from conflicts abroad to the aftermath of a pandemic, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed by the enormity of these challenges. Yet, within every crisis lies an opportunity for positive change, waiting to be seized by those with the courage and determination to make a difference. Often, our sense of helplessness stems from a desire to control events beyond our reach. However, recognizing the limitations of our influence can be empowering, freeing us to focus on the actions we can take to sow seeds of hope in our communities and beyond.

She traveled to Kenya to see the work being done to eradicate malaria by the Rotarian non-profit Malaria Partners International, and to Ethiopia to see the work being done for our Peace Project in Ethiopia. Alana also had the opportunity to meet the father of President Obama and go on safari to the Masai Mara in Kenya. We are thrilled to announce that we have District Designated Funds (DDF) available for clubs to use in support of urgent Community Need Grants. We know this is a popular program for clubs to use for projects that are in service to their local community. The district has approximately $20,000 in District Designated Funds (DDF) available and we will allocate within the following framework: (1) The district will match the club 2 to 1, with a maximum match of $750.

The Network of California Community College Foundations proudly announces the selection of the Rotary Foundation and the California Rotary Districts as the recipients of the 2023 Bernard Osher Philanthropist of the Year Award. This honor is presented annually to individuals, corporations, or nonprofit organizations that demonstrate exceptional commitment to philanthropy and serve as inspiring models for supporting California Community Colleges. Through over 110 years of passionate service, the Rotary Foundation and its Districts have consistently supported sustainable projects within their communities, including providing over $4.4 million in financial assistance to California community colleges and students.

The Seattle Rotary Service Foundation would like to congratulate the Pike Place Market Foundation for being selected for the $100,000 Community Impact Grant! The grant was funded by members of the Rotary Club of Seattle (https://www.seattlerotary.org/) and was awarded following a competitive selection process. The Seattle Rotary Service Foundation narrowed the field from twenty-seven applicants to three finalists. The finalists then made presentations to the Club members who then voted and selected the Pike Place Market Foundation as the winner.

Rotary District 5030 Lithium Battery Recycling Event Saturday, April 20, 2024 10AM to 3 PM 11 locations throughout the greater Seattle Puget Sound Area Building on District 5030’s successful lithium battery recycling event in 2022, District 5030 Rotarians will unite again, with the support of District Governor Kaj, to offer 11 sites for community members to recycle lithium batteries that come in in cell phones, laptops, tablets, power drills, e-bikes, electric vehicles and anything that is rechargeable. The need to recycle batteries wisely is critical to our environment.

I am so happy to report, on behalf of Rotary Club of Edmonds, and the Inauguration team of Lamin Manneh, Suzanne James and myself, that after five years, the Bridge to Success project is now completed. We were able to go beyond the scope of our original project expectations thanks to the incredible partnerships with MRC Holland Foundation, The Rotary Club of Brusubi and the Ministries of Education to create not one, but two science labs in rural Gambia.
