The Basic Education and Literacy theme in Rotary focuses on one of the key areas of service that addresses global challenges related to education and literacy. Rotary clubs worldwide engage in projects that improve education systems, provide teacher training, and ensure that children and adults alike have the resources and opportunities to learn. Here’s what the theme emphasizes: Access to Education : Many communities, especially in developing countries, lack basic access to education. Rotary projects aim to build schools, provide learning materials, and create infrastructure that ensures children have a place to learn.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month: Donate blood to support patients in need. This is a time to honor our community’s littlest patients battling cancer. Many of these patients will rely on donated blood throughout the course of their treatment, like Isaac. He underwent surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, and two stem cell transplants before reaching his remission. Isaac’s mother attributes blood donation as a huge component of Isaac’s care: “Without that person’s blood, he could not have survived. That act of kindness, as a parent, as a person, there just aren’t enough thank yous.”

The Alzheimer’s / Dementia Rotary Action Group (ADRAG) is proud to announce the launch of our new Advocacy Program, designed to empower Rotarians across the globe to take leadership roles in the fight against Alzheimer’s and dementia. Through this program, we are introducing two pivotal roles: District Ambassadors and Club Champions , who will play a key role in advancing awareness and fundraising within Rotary clubs and districts. As a District Ambassador, Rotarians will serve as a key point of contact for ADRAG within their Rotary district.

Please join the Lake Union Rotary Club Thursday, September 19, 6-8 p.m. at the Center for Wooden Boats for their “Happy Hour 4 Good”. This event will raise money for the Lake Union Rotary Foundation. The club’s Foundation uses its funds for Lake Union Rotary Club domestic and International grants. It is also used to to partner with and support other Rotary Club’s grants projects. The cost is $50.
