Rotary’s Monthly Focus-Clean Water and Sanitation (WASH)

Rachele Bouchand

Hello Rotary Family! March is Rotary’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) month. WASH is one of Rotary’s seven areas of focus and Rotarians have supported projects around the world that provide communities with access to clean water and sanitation. These initiatives have a large ripple effect on communities. Close, reliable access to water decreases incidents of waterborne diseases and allows children to attend school (versus spending a large portion of their day gathering water for the family). Additionally, hygiene protocols decrease illness and allow girls to attend school all month long. Learn more about WASH here .

The Power of Planning: Why Every Club Needs a Three-Year Strategy

The Power of Planning: Why Every Club Needs a Three-Year Strategy

Editor

Dear Fellow Rotarians, As we step into March—Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Month , it’s the perfect time to reflect on the power of sustainable impact . A well-crafted plan doesn’t just keep clubs focused—it allows for bigger, more ambitious projects, strengthens membership, and ensures financial sustainability. Why a Three-Year Plan? 1.

Make reading a reality for every child in Seattle. The literacy situation in Seattle Public Schools and surrounding areas is discouraging and historically disappointing. The SPS October 2024 Audit report points out the continuing disparities and low proficiency reading levels for BIPOC and particularly Black Male students. The reports state that only 60% of SPS 3rd graders are reading at the proficiency levels for their grade. The proficiency level is 40% for BIPOC and 28% for Black Males. 72% of Black Males in the 3rd grade aren’t reading at their grade level.

Rotary Action Groups: Expanding Rotary’s Impact with ADRAG’s Marketplace Initiative

Public Image

Why Rotary Action Groups Matter Rotary International is built on the principle of service above self, but some of the world’s greatest challenges require dedicated expertise, collaboration, and innovative solutions. That’s where Rotary Action Groups (RAGs) play a critical role. These groups unite Rotarians, family members, and friends of Rotary who share a passion for specific causes, bringing specialized knowledge and hands-on involvement to projects worldwide. One of the most pressing issues facing communities today is the growing impact of Alzheimer’s and dementia —a crisis affecting millions globally.

A First-Timer’s Perspective: Attending the Pacific Northwest President-Elect Learning Seminar

Stacie Thorlakson

Stepping into the Pacific Northwest President-Elect Learning Seminar (PNW PELS) for the first time was both exhilarating and a bit overwhelming. As a first-time attendee, yet as the current president of newly chartered Eastside Action Rotary Club (EARC) and president-elect for the 2025-2026 term, this seminar was pivotal in shaping my leadership journey. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but from the moment I arrived, I could feel the energy, camaraderie, and deep sense of purpose that filled the room. The weekend was a whirlwind of learning, networking, and inspiration.

Thank you for your time and donations. Three-year-old girls should be looking for leprechauns and pots of gold on St. Patrick’s Day, not receiving a cancer diagnosis. Jane was diagnosed with a rare kidney cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes, lungs, and spine on St. Patrick’s Day in 2017. Less than a week later, she received two blood transfusions.
