From the District Governor |

| Jeff Borek |
Fellow Rotarians, As we enter the last month of this calendar year, I am reminded of the strength and resilience of our Rotary family across District 5030. Our clubs are at their best when they are welcoming, growing, and actively engaging new people who share our commitment to service. December marks Rotary’s global focus on Disease Prevention and Treatment , a theme that speaks directly to the heart of our mission: improving lives, strengthening communities, and ensuring that people everywhere have access to the health and support they need to thrive. When you give blood, Bloodworks Northwest will have you wrapped up in an hour or less, cookie in hand, with the warm feeling that you just gave local patients another shot at life. Your blood donations support people across the Pacific Northwest undergoing cancer treatment, surgeries, and organ transplants.

On December 9th, The Seattle University Women’s Basketball team proved they are champions both on and off the court by joining the Fremont Rotary Club’s Sandwich Making Night at Taki’s Mad Greek Restaurant. Together, they crafted 270 sandwiches for Compass Housing Alliance, FamilyWorks in Wallingford, and Operation Nightwatch, making a slam dunk for the community. This is the second time that the team has made sandwiches this semester and they asked if they can come back next semester as well!

Washington ranks 23rd for physicians per capita in the U.S., with fewer physicians per capita than the national average. (American Association of Medical Colleges, 2024). Bellevue Sunrise Rotary is partnering with the WSU College of Medicine, Washington’s Champion for student success, education excellence and career readiness. The goal is to help reduce the shortage of physicians in vast areas of the state through the Rotary Scholarship in Medicine that has been established at the Washington State University (WSU) Foundation.
