As a first-time attendee at Hearts & Wine 2025, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I walked into the historic Pickering Barn—but what I experienced was nothing short of magical.
From the warm glow of string lights to the rustic charm of the venue (listed on the National Register of Historic Places!), the evening unfolded as a vibrant celebration of purpose, passion, and community.
I was immediately swept into a swirl of welcoming faces: Rotarians, business owners, community leaders, and passionate citizens—each one there with a shared purpose: to take action against hunger and food waste. This wasn’t just a fundraising event—it was a movement, hosted by Harvest Against Hunger and presenting sponsor, The Klorfine Foundation.
Sips, Sounds, and Solidarity
The night kicked off with an elegant wine tasting featuring outstanding wineries, breweries, and distilleries—including Abbe Winery, Big Block Brewing, Copperworks Distilling, and many more. As we sampled and savored, the Sue Nixon Quartet filled the barn with smooth, jazzy vibes—creating the perfect ambiance for fellowship and reflection.
Stories That Stirred the Soul
Auctioneer and event MC Matt Lorch kept the crowd engaged and energized, guiding us through an evening filled with powerful stories and inspiring moments. We heard firsthand how hunger is impacting our communities—and how Harvest Against Hunger is stepping in with innovative solutions to get fresh, healthy food where it’s needed most.
“As hunger relief partners across Washington prepare for an uncertain and difficult future meeting the increased need for food assistance, the remarkable generosity of Hearts and Wine guests and sponsors could not have come at a better time. The funds raised will help Harvest Against Hunger continue to build and support innovative programs that connect local growers with food banks and meal programs to help deliver healthy, local produce to people in need in communities across our state.”
— David Bobanick, Executive Director, Harvest Against Hunger
Honoring Heroes
One of the evening’s most moving highlights was the presentation of the Hunger Relief Hero Award to Rachel Tefft of PCC Community Markets. A long-time champion of hunger relief, Rachel has played a key role in the success of the Growing for Good partnership—connecting local farms with food banks to bring fresh, healthy produce to those in need.
Her passion and leadership earned a well-deserved standing ovation and served as a powerful reminder of the impact one dedicated person can make through action that digs deep – right to the root of hunger and hope!

Over the past 40+ years, Harvest Against Hunger has built lasting partnerships, transforming surplus produce into vital resources that strengthen communities across Washington.

“The Bellevue Eastside Rotary Club may be small, but our impact is mighty. With over half our membership present, we proudly stood as the lead table in donations at Hearts & Wine, all in support of the incredible work Harvest Against Hunger does to fight food insecurity. Together, we’re making a difference—one meal, one moment at a time.”
