Homelessness in King County is at an all-time high. Over 16,000 individuals were counted homeless by the last one-night count. These include families with children. These and so many others face disproportionate socio-economic challenges: lower income levels, unemployment and under-employment, access to health services, safe and stable housing, language barriers, and more.
Much more than thrift stores, St. Vincent de Paul Seattle-King County(SVdP) is a grassroots, volunteer based, not-for-profit organization uniquely positioned to prevent homelessness, and help neighbors in need to gain stability and self-sufficiency.
Neighbors who experience difficult life circumstances find immediate relief by calling the SVdP Crisis Helpline. The Helpline receives nearly 40,000 requests each year and is the #1 referral agency for the ‘211’ crisis hotline. Intake specialists assist callers with eviction prevention, basic needs supplies, vital community resources, and needs assessments for referrals to our case management services.
Neighborhood-based home visitation teams meet people where they are, building an essential human connection, empowering them to change their circumstances, sustain their families, and thrive. Over 900 SVdP volunteers in 48 neighborhood-based groups across King County perform nearly 16,000 in-home visits each year.
Located in Georgetown, the SVdP Kobayashi Center/Food Bank and community resource hub strives to nourish and uplift neighbors by providing access to essential food supplies, necessities, referrals to comprehensive case management, and a network of community resources. With support, neighbors address urgent needs while being treated with empathy and dignity.
SVdP’s skilled, compassionate case managers empower neighbors through long term, individualized support, tailored systems navigation, and needs assessments to move toward stability and self-sufficiency.
Because Rotary District 5030 has a reach across King County and beyond, your partnership is invaluable to make an impact for neighbors in need in this time of crisis. Here are three ways to help:
