RISE Spring Cohort is Underway!

On April 18th, the second cohort of emerging ROTARY leaders gathered at Evergreen Hospital to network and meet their mentor.  This new leadership development program, called RISE (Rotarians Inspired to Succeed and Engage) is based on a Servant Leadership Program that was first developed by former Rotary International Director, Jerry Hall, and research from Dr. Kent Keith, who wrote the book, Anyway-The Paradoxical Commandments.

This District 5030 leadership development program integrates current leadership best practices with Rotary principles and pairs each participant with a mentor. Each club nominates up to three members to participate in the program, which is offered in the Spring (North King County) and Fall (South King County) of each Rotary year. Participants can apply to the cohort that best fits their schedule. (Yes, you can live in Mill Creek and participate in the Fall (South-end focused) cohort if you wish.)

This program combines in-person networking, mentors, and a curriculum which covers five virtual sessions plus two in-person networking/inspirational speaker meetings. The five sessions cover engaging topics:

  • Service Leadership- Developing a leadership mindset through serving others.
  • Key Attributes of Leaders- Growing self-awareness, listening, and changing the pyramid of power.
  • Coaching Others- Developing others by coaching and unleashing the energy and intelligence of others.
  • Foresight and Stewardship- How we understand and apply what we know is critical to success.
  • Building Trust and Inspiring Others- Creating a culture of trust and sense of community.

At the RISE kickoff event, Dr. Jeff Tomlin, the former CEO of Evergreen Health spoke about Crisis Management and how his team prepared and managed through one of the first COVID cases in the US. It was an inspirational evening and Dr. Tomlin exemplified Servant Leadership in his presentation.

RISE is a great way to further develop leadership skills, interact with experienced mentors and expand your network beyond your club. If your club is interested in member retention and growing future leaders, then the RISE program is a great opportunity.

Lisa Edwards is the Chair of RISE and we are thankful to her for launching this program! Applications for next fall are due on 9/6 and you can find more information at https:district5030.org/rise
