The Rotary Club of West Seattle, supported by 11 other clubs, proudly organized a trip to the impoverished Mayan village of Esperanza Blanca Flor, one of 260 villages surrounding Barillas, located in the Northwestern Highlands region of Guatemala. Fourteen team members installed 106 locally manufactured “Aller” stoves, which significantly reduce respiratory disease in women and children while providing over 50% better wood-burning efficiency. The team joined with a local NGO, Hands for Peacemaking, as well as villager leaders, to also install water filters and fund the installation of a new roof and paint for the school, backpacks, supplies, and books for 131 students, as well as water tanks, school desks, books, eyeglasses, medical supplies, and numerous other repairs. The team included members of the West Seattle, Renton, and Bellevue Rotary Clubs. We were further supported by the Rotary Club of Barillas, District 6380.
Many thanks to the twelve clubs who generously supported the purchase of stoves, water filters, and village improvements for this village, including:
