VOCFINU: Voices of Children’s Faith in Northern Uganda

Voices of Children’s Faith in Northern Uganda (VOCFINU) is a non-profit established in northern Uganda since 2019 with current operations covering the districts of; Nwoya, Gulu, and Omoro. The Organization was established to transform the community through empowerment in; education, health, livelihoods, human rights and advocacy for the girl child, persons with disabilities, youth and women in order to become self-reliant and enjoy their fundamental human rights.VOCFINU is also a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code of the United States of America, and has its international headquarters in Washington DC. The founder and President of VOCFINU is Ms. Alice Lamunu.

Our Mission

To uplift the community of Northern Uganda, by empowering women, orphans, youth, vulnerable children, and persons with disabilities through education, health, livelihoods, and advocacy, with an emphasis on supporting young girls for economic self-reliance and fundamental human rights.

Our Vision

A strong and inclusive community where women, youths, vulnerable children and persons with disabilities have economic empowerment and enjoy fundamental human rights.

Objective

We aim to improve the  life  quality of  Orphans and vulnerable children, and poor women in northern Uganda by breaking the cycle of poverty for a brighter future.

What we do

  1. Provide skills and developmental training for young mothers to enhance their economic independence.
  2. Promote community income through village savings and loan associations (VSLAs) education, health, environmental initiatives, and peace-building efforts.
  3. Advocate for the rights and well-being of women,children, and persons with disabilities in northern Uganda.
  4. Offer vocational training skills in tailoring and culinary arts to empower women in the community.
  5. Expand our support network to ensure more children, especially young girls in refugee and host communities, access education and essential services.

Our Impact:

  • Education: Over 250 girls have received scholarships and educational support.
  • Health: VOCFINU’s program has reached 5,000 women and girls, providing free medical services through our annual medical outreaches including; diagnosis, treatment and referral, menstrual hygiene education and supplies, and nutrition for under 5 children and pregnant women.
  • Economic Empowerment: We’ve assisted 300 women in starting or expanding their businesses, improved their livelihoods and food security.
  • Advocacy: VOCFINU actively engages with policymakers on various fora, contributing to gender-responsive policies.

Future Direction/Strategic plan 2023-2027/2028:

  • Scale up current interventions to  cover all the eight (8) districts within Acholi sub region
  • Provide emergency relief and sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable refugee households representing; women and single mothers, and persons with disabilities living in refugee settlements in northern Uganda.
  • Integrate climate change  interventions in our program
