Philanthropy in a Box: Reflecting on an Evening of Inspiration and Community Spirit with David Bowling

Take a journey back to an evening filled with inspiration, community spirit, and insightful discussion at “Philanthropy in a Box,” featuring David Bowling, CEO of the Eastside Community Development Fund, and former executive director for Congregations for the Homeless (now Porchlight). Hosted by the 5030’s Vocational team (Chris Boland, Nicole Otness, Chris Nakea, Wendi Fischer, and DG Kaj Pedersen) at Brooklyn Brothers Pizzeria in Mill Creek, this event was a gateway to understanding the powerful synergies between Rotary, local businesses, and community-driven philanthropy. Attendees enjoyed slices of pizza, refreshing beers, and delved into meaningful conversations about fostering positive change.

Held on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, “Philanthropy in a Box” took place at Brooklyn Brothers Pizzeria, conveniently located at 15121 Main Street, Mill Creek, WA 98012. The doors opened at 6 PM, inviting guests to step into an evening filled with camaraderie, networking opportunities, and delicious food.

The highlight of the event was a captivating talk by David Bowling, the CEO of the Eastside Community Development Fund. With his wealth of experience and passion for community empowerment, David shed light on the pivotal roles of Rotary and local businesses in driving positive change. Through his insights, attendees gained a deeper understanding of how collaboration between diverse stakeholders could lead to impactful philanthropic initiatives that uplift and transform communities.

One of the key topics of discussion was the RISE leadership program, an initiative aimed at nurturing future leaders and change agents within our communities. Lisa Edwards provided valuable insights into the program’s objectives, accomplishments, and the role played by Rotary and its business network in its success.
