Every month, Rotary shines a spotlight on one of the areas where our global network creates meaningful impact. In March, that focus is Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)—one of the most fundamental building blocks of healthy, thriving communities.
Access to clean water and safe sanitation is something many of us rarely have to think about in our daily lives. Yet for billions of people around the world, it remains a daily challenge. According to global estimates, more than two billion people still lack access to safely managed drinking water, and even more live without adequate sanitation facilities. The consequences ripple outward—affecting health, education, economic opportunity, and dignity.
This is where Rotary’s commitment to service becomes transformative.
Through projects led by clubs, districts, and Rotary Action Groups, Rotarians around the world are building wells, installing water purification systems, constructing sanitation facilities, and providing hygiene education. These efforts don’t just address immediate needs—they create sustainable systems that allow communities to flourish for generations.
Our district has a proud history of supporting international water projects, and many of our clubs continue to partner with communities and organizations to bring clean water to areas where it is desperately needed. These projects reflect Rotary at its best: local leadership combined with global collaboration.
But the importance of water and sanitation also reminds us of something deeper about Rotary itself. Our work is not just about projects—it is about people. Every well installed, every hygiene program launched, and every sanitation facility built represents improved health for families, more time for children to attend school, and greater stability for entire communities.
Rotary’s approach is always centered on sustainability and partnership. We work alongside communities to ensure solutions are locally owned, culturally appropriate, and built to last.
As we recognize Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Month, I encourage every club in District 5030 to reflect on how this essential area of focus connects with our mission of Service Above Self. Whether through international projects, education, or supporting Rotary initiatives that address global water challenges, our collective efforts truly change lives.
Thank you for the work you do every day to make our communities—both local and global—stronger.
Together, we continue to demonstrate what is possible when people of action come together to serve.
