From the District Governor |

| District Governor |
I’m grateful that I stopped in time. I’m grateful that I forgave before it was too late. I’m grateful for all the close calls that I survived so I could still be here with my wife, my son, my friends, and my colleagues and guides, without whom I’d be lost. I’m grateful that I still have so much to learn. This is a statement of gratitude that I reshaped to incorporate my own sentiments for Thanksgiving. The tremendous experiences you gain as you make your path in the world comes with many lessons learned through failure and success.

We are promoting three amazing opportunities for all Rotarians within District 5030. We want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to make an impact in the world, their communities, and themselves by supporting our Rotary Foundation. The Foundation represents the tremendous power of our collective power to serve beyond ourselves to make an impact in the lives of others. This is why I am asking anyone who has not had the opportunity to contribute to the Foundation to consider doing so this year.

The District 5030 Environmental Sustainability Committee is launching a very ambitious Rotary campaign to recycle lithium ion batteries throughout our District. Lithium-ion batteries are a phenomenal technology that can propel us into a clean energy and transportation future. All lithium-ion batteries are made up of varying amounts of critical minerals like cobalt, nickel, copper and lithium. What is incredible is these minerals can be recycled almost infinitely.

This festive season, we are grateful for life. Giving blood is a direct way to give back to those in need. Blood supplies can often become depleted during the holiday season, but donors like you ensure there is enough blood to support our local doctors and first responders during this time, whether it’s helping someone through a medical emergency, cancer treatment, or surgery. Thank you to all donors who continue to come together as a community and make this holiday season one of giving and gratitude. Make an appointment today to give the gift of life.

The RYLA Northwest was a program was founded in 1969 by Rotarians in the Lakewood Rotary Club (District 5020), but was a District 5030 program at the start of the pandemic. You may ask, how could that be? Districts 5020, 5030, and 5040 were all part of District 502 before a realignment of districts in 1973. The program continued to be administered through District 5030, serving clubs and students in Districts 5020 and 5030 (District 5040 formed a new program).

The ERL Program consisted of a full day of intensive leadership training and networking facilitated by past district governors from Zones 26 and 27, Glenn Fong, Shurie Scheel, Del Green, and Gianna Richards. They were dynamic and motivating teachers.

DGE Rachele Bouchand and Lisa Edwards – RISE Leaders RISE stands for Rotarians Inspired to Succeed and Engage. The RISE program came about as a result of DGE Rachele Bouchand and Lisa Edwards attending a leadership development Seminar at the November 2022 Zone Institute in Salt Lake City, UT. Rachele was planning for leadership development to be her theme as 2024-25 District Governor for 5030 and Lisa was then President Elect at UDRC. Lisa was concerned about the retention of new members and was looking for a way to increase their “stickiness”.
