Stinky Spoke Mountain Bike Ride Slated for January 27, 20224

The Rotary Club of Redmond is in high gear planning for its Stinky Spoke mountain bike ride through Redmond on Saturday, January 27, 2024. The 20-mile ride starts and ends at Willows Run Golf Complex in Redmond. Over 300 riders from over 30 communities in western Washington head toward Heart Attack Hill on the Tolt Pipeline Trail with its 300-foot elevation gain, to Redmond Ridge, into the Watershed on the Power Line Trail, to Farrel-McWhirter Park, and then to the Sammamish River Trail, and back to Willows Run.

This traditional ride that is held on the stinkiest weather day of the year is the Rotary Club of Redmond’s primary fundraising event to support local and international charities, such as Hopelink, Harvest Against Hunger, 200 Orphanages Worldwide, and Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center. Redmond Rotary is no stranger to bicycle rides after hosting its RedSpoke ride from Redmond to Spokane for over 30 years.

The ride is suitable for all ages (recommended over the age of 7 or 8). Riders on electric bikes are welcome. Those who are daunted by Heart Attack Hill should take comfort in the fact that there’s a walking track. Those who ride up the hill will be awarded with a medal for their efforts.

Along the way, riders will encounter the Redmond Rotary volunteers, Redmond High School Interact Club members, and staff and volunteers with Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center. It’s a poker ride, too, meaning riders will receive playing cards at these SAG (support and gear) stops to amass the best poker hands. There are prizes! At the ride’s conclusion, participants are treated to a hot lunch and cold beverages. There are drawings and a silent auction to enjoy.

Redmond Rotary encourages corporate, family, and Rotary member teams to participate in the ride.
