DG Patricia Chapman

One of the greatest privileges of serving as your District Governor is seeing firsthand the incredible difference Rotarians make every single day. Whether it’s providing clean water, supporting students, fighting disease, responding to disasters, or strengthening our own communities, our ability to serve begins with one remarkable resource— The Rotary Foundation . On Friday, October 16 , I hope you’ll join me at the DoubleTree SeaTac Ballroom for our District 5030 Rotary Foundation Gala —an evening dedicated to celebrating the generosity, compassion, and commitment of the Rotarians who make this work possible.

Letter from the Editor

Membership Begins With Belonging

Membership Begins With Belonging

Editor

Membership Begins With Belonging People rarely join Rotary because they need another meeting on their calendar. They join because they want their time to matter. They stay because they discover meaningful service, genuine friendships, and a place where their ideas and talents are valued. August is Membership and New Club Development Month—a time to celebrate the people who make Rotary possible while asking an important question: Are we creating the kind of experience that others will want to join? Growing Rotary is not simply about increasing numbers. It is about expanding our capacity to serve.

Your Club Is Writing Its Legacy

Your Club Is Writing Its Legacy

Public Image Chair

Your website is the storyboard. Last month, we introduced PI Playbook with a simple idea: Every Rotary Club Has a Story Worth Telling. Who’s Hearing Yours? Each month, we’ll bring you practical ideas, creative inspiration, emerging trends, and easy-to-use tools to help your club tell its story. This month, during Membership Month , let’s take that idea a step further. Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the Zone Conference in Reno focused on Public Image, Membership, and Foundation . While each area has its own important role, one message really stood out: They aren’t three separate conversations.

Membership Matters

Connection: Rotary’s Greatest Membership Strategy

Connection: Rotary’s Greatest Membership Strategy

Kaj Pedersen

There is an old saying that people join organizations for a purpose, but they stay because of the people. That simple truth was on full display at the Rotary International Convention in Taipei. Yes, there were inspiring keynote speakers, thought-provoking breakout sessions, and opportunities to learn about incredible projects taking place around the world. But ask anyone from District 5030 what they will remember most, and chances are it won’t be a presentation. It will be the laughter shared over dinner. The conversations that lasted long after the sessions ended.

Tech on the Road Initiative Continues to Expand Digital Access Across Egypt

Kaj Pedersen

The partnership between Haya Karima Foundation and Maple Valley Rotary Club continues to make significant strides through the “Tech on the Road” initiative, bringing digital education and technology training directly to underserved communities across Egypt. Designed as mobile digital learning centers, the initiative’s technology trucks deliver accredited training in digital literacy, financial literacy, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and information security to villages and rural areas where access to traditional training facilities is limited. Rather than expecting citizens to travel long distances, the program brings opportunity directly to their communities.

Bringing Light Where Darkness Has Fallen: Rotary’s SVITLO Project for Ukraine

Bringing Light Where Darkness Has Fallen: Rotary’s SVITLO Project for Ukraine

Kaj Pedersen

In the midst of war, some wounds are immediately visible. Others change lives forever. Since the invasion of Ukraine, tens of thousands of civilians and veterans have suffered traumatic eye injuries caused by missiles, drones, shrapnel, and landmines. Today, an estimated 40,000 Ukrainians have been left blind, including approximately 10,000 children and 18,000 veterans. For many, the loss of sight is only the beginning of a long journey of rebuilding independence, confidence, and hope. Rotary has long believed that education opens doors and restores dignity.

What began as a basic remodel grew into a much more substantial project when the older building revealed the need for upgraded plumbing, ventilation, electrical work, insulation, drywall, subflooring, and other code-related improvements.
