Your Club Is Writing Its Legacy

Your website is the storyboard.

Last month, we introduced PI Playbook with a simple idea:

Every Rotary Club Has a Story Worth Telling. Who’s Hearing Yours?

Each month, we’ll bring you practical ideas, creative inspiration, emerging trends, and easy-to-use tools to help your club tell its story.

This month, during Membership Month, let’s take that idea a step further.

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the Zone 26 27 Conference in Reno focused on Public Image, Membership, and Foundation. While each area has its own important role, one message really stood out:

They aren’t three separate conversations. They’re connected.

One of the visuals shared at the conference illustrated the cycle beautifully:

IMPACT creates STORIES.
STORIES expand REACH.
REACH builds ENGAGEMENT.
ENGAGEMENT develops LEADERS.
LEADERS learn, grow and ADAPT.
And ADAPTATION creates new IMPACT.

That’s the Rotary story cycle—and Public Image is woven throughout it.

Your club is writing its legacy every day.

Every service project adds a chapter.

Every community partnership adds a chapter.

Every new member adds a chapter.

Every life touched by your club adds a chapter.

But are we capturing those stories as we write them?

That’s where Public Image comes in.

📖 YOUR CLUB IS WRITING ITS LEGACY

Your website is the storyboard.

Think of your website as the storyboard for your club’s story—the place where someone can see the people, projects, purpose, and personality behind your Rotary club.

Imagine someone who knows little—or nothing—about your club. They may have heard your name from a friend, seen a service project on social media, or simply searched for a Rotary club in their community.

When they visit your website, can they quickly discover:

Who are you?

What do you care about?

Who are you serving?

What impact are you making?

Who are the people behind the work?

And most importantly:

Can I see myself being part of this story?

That’s why keeping your digital presence current matters.

Your website shouldn’t be a museum of everything your club has ever done.

It’s the next chapter.

🔎 WE LOOKED. NOW LET’S TALK.

Our District 5030 Public Image subcommittee members have been busy behind the scenes, reviewing club websites and public social media presence across the district.

We weren’t creating a report card.

We were looking through the eyes of a prospective member, community partner, volunteer, or someone simply curious about Rotary.

We looked at what’s working, what could be refreshed, and where small changes could make a big difference in how your club’s story is experienced online.

This month, we’ll be contacting clubs to schedule a brief Zoom conversation to share your individual findings, celebrate what’s working well, and offer practical suggestions.

Think of it as a fresh set of eyes on your club’s storyboard.

And remember: a storyboard is never finished.

New members join. New projects happen. New partnerships develop. New impact is created.

Your story keeps changing—and your digital presence should change with it.

🤖 AI ASSIST

Let AI See Your Club Through New Eyes

Try this prompt:

“Act as a prospective Rotary member visiting our club’s website for the first time. What would make me curious to learn more? What questions would I still have? What would make me feel welcomed—or make me click away? Give me three practical recommendations.”

AI can help identify gaps, refresh language, and generate ideas—but your club’s authentic voice should always lead the way.

📈 TREND WATCH

Stop Posting. Start Storytelling.

A post that says:

Our club held its annual food drive today.

tells us what happened.

A story that says:

When Sarah joined Rotary, she wanted to find a way to help families in our community. Today, she’s helping lead our annual food drive.

tells us why it matters.

One reports.

The other connects.

And connection is where Membership begins.

💡 DID YOU KNOW?

Your Members Are Your Best Public Image Ambassadors

People connect with people more than logos.

Don’t just post the check presentation. Show the Rotarian who spent Saturday morning volunteering.

Don’t just photograph the speaker. Show the members laughing together before the meeting.

Don’t just announce the project. Show the person whose life was changed by it.

Show what it feels like to belong.

🎯 PLAY OF THE MONTH

Take the 30-Second Test

Find someone who isn’t a member of your club.

Give them your website for 30 seconds.

Then ask:

“What do you think our club is all about?”

And:

“Would you want to know more? Why—or why not?”

Don’t explain. Don’t defend.

Just listen.

Then bring what you learn to your PI Website Review Zoom.

🏆 THE 3×3 CHALLENGE

One Story. Three Places. One More Step.

Take one meaningful Rotary story this month and share it through:

1. Your Website
2. Your Newsletter
3. Your Social Media

Then take it one step further:

🎥 Create a short video.
🤖 Use AI to help develop your headline or caption.
📣 End with an invitation:

“Want to be part of what we’re doing? Come join us.”

One story can travel much farther than you think.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Reno conference reinforced something important:

Public Image, Membership, and Foundation are not separate lanes. They’re part of the same journey.

Public Image helps people SEE the impact.

Membership invites them to BECOME part of it.

Foundation helps us AMPLIFY the impact.

And it all starts with the stories we tell.

Your club is already creating those stories.

Our job in Public Image is to help those stories travel.

Because impact creates stories.
Stories create connections.
Connections create engagement.
And engaged people create even greater impact.

Your club is writing its legacy.

Capture it. Share it. Invite others into it.

Your story matters. Tell it well.
