People. Service. Community.

From the District Governor |

| Jeff Borek |
As we conclude another Rotary year in District 5030, I want to thank every Rotarian, Rotaractor, club and district leader who have contributed their time, energy, and passion to serving our communities. Together, we have made a meaningful difference, strengthened our clubs, and demonstrated the power of Rotary service. As we look ahead to the new Rotary year, I continue to encourage every club to embrace a growth mindset . Clubs that thrive are not those that believe they have all the answers, but those that are willing to learn, adapt, and continually improve.

June is Rotary Fellowships Month, a time to celebrate the unique ways Rotarians connect through shared interests, professions, passions, and purpose. While many fellowships are centered around hobbies, recreation, or special interests, one fellowship is helping Rotarians reconnect with one of the very foundations upon which Rotary was built: vocational connection. That fellowship is Rotary Means Business (RMB). Rotary was founded in 1905 by professionals who believed that trusted relationships, ethical business practices, friendship, and community service could work hand in hand.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at this year’s Learning Symposium for the Public Image sessions, Basic Branding and Telling Your Story . We were thrilled by the outstanding turnout, the energy in the room, and the thoughtful questions and discussions throughout both presentations. It was encouraging to see so many Rotarians eager to strengthen their club’s public image and learn new ways to share Rotary’s impact within their communities. During the Basic Branding session, we explored the importance of creating a consistent and recognizable identity for your club through Rotary’s visual guidelines, messaging, and communication tools.

The Rotary Club of West Seattle has built a longstanding relationship with South Seattle College. Some of our members have even been employed by the college, and some have served on the board of trustees. A generous endowment allows the Club to provide resources. As examples, our Club funded the purchase of a high end French oven for the culinary department, and this fall we will plant and dedicate a Peace Pole on the campus featuring languages chosen by the student body. In addition, the Club awards Automotive Technology students four scholarships each year (Earl Cruzen Scholarships).

In 2001, members of the Emerald City Rotary Club partnered with Computers for the World (C4W) to establish a computer lab in The Gambia, a small West African nation. At the time, I was a young student with big dreams but limited access to technology. Little did I know that the Rotary project taking shape in my community would help change the course of my life. That computer lab opened doors to learning, opportunity, and possibility. It gave students like me access to technology that many of us had never experienced before.

RC Federal Way held a great event Saturday, May 23 honoring veterans. We created a veteran cemetery lookalike with 1,240 white stakes. We had Jim Ferrell, Mayor of Federal Way, speak along with local veterans and our club. We particularly singled out two deceased RC Federal Way veterans who are buried at the local Tahoma National Cemetery. We recognized their widows who were in attendance. Pancake breakfast (free to veterans). Attendees were able to write the name of their deceased veteran and with a small American flag could place their name on one of the stakes.
