Rotary Clubs of Kent Bring Joy to Youth at Annual Fishing Experience

On Saturday, May 17, 2025, the Rotary Club of Kent and Kent Sunrise Rotary came together to support the annual Kent Parks Fishing Experience at The Old Fishing Hole in Kent, Washington. Over 120 children, ages 4 to 14, participated in the event—many catching their first fish and learning valuable lessons in water safety and environmental stewardship.

This long-standing tradition, hosted in partnership with the City of Kent Parks Department, is completely free for participating families. The Rotary Club of Kent helped stock the pond with over 1,000 trout, continuing their commitment to maintaining and revitalizing the Old Fishing Hole, a project they first took on in 1999.

Kent Sunrise Rotary enhanced the experience by donating 120 brand-new fishing poles, ensuring every child had the tools they needed to participate. Volunteer Rotarians from both clubs worked directly with kids throughout the morning, offering guidance, encouragement, and a memorable introduction to the joys of fishing.

The event is about much more than catching fish—it’s about building community, confidence, and connections. Parents, children, and volunteers all left with smiles, proud stories, and a renewed appreciation for the power of service and outdoor experiences.

Rotary’s involvement in the Kent Parks Fishing Experience is a testament to what’s possible when clubs commit to long-term community partnerships. To get involved or learn more about replicating this project in your area, contact the Rotary Club of Kent or visit kentwa.gov.
