The Seattle Rotary Service Foundation would like to congratulate the Pike Place Market Foundation for being selected for the $100,000 Community Impact Grant! The grant was funded by members of the Rotary Club of Seattle (https://www.seattlerotary.org/) and was awarded following a competitive selection process. The Seattle Rotary Service Foundation narrowed the field from twenty-seven applicants to three finalists. The finalists then made presentations to the Club members who then voted and selected the Pike Place Market Foundation as the winner.
Lillian Sherman: “When community members do not have access to healthy, affordable, full-service grocery offerings, the resulting stress of having lower-quality foods or insufficient quantities of food leads to negative health outcomes. We are grateful to Seattle Rotary #4 for the grant and, for partnering with the Pike Place Market Foundation to combat food insecurity in downtown Seattle. The Market Foundation and our service partners work to ensure that people of all ages, abilities, and needs – both those housed and those experiencing homelessness – can access fruits, vegetables, and protein to support their health and well-being. This partnership with Rotary will help make the Market’s abundance more accessible to community members.”
We are delighted that the Pike Market Senior Center & Food Bank will also benefit from the grant. The
Market Foundation has an impressive array of programs to support food security from home delivery, no-cook food bags, CSA bags, and coupons to matching programs and the Pike Place Secret Garden. We know that our Club members are looking forward to increased involvement with the Market Foundation, and we hope to set up quarterly packing events or other service opportunities.
Congratulations to Lillian Sherman and her team at the Pike Place Market Foundation!
