The Vital Role of Rotary Action Groups

Dear Rotarians,

As we navigate the journey of service and community building within Rotary, it’s essential to recognize the significant contributions of Rotary Action Groups (RAGs). These groups exemplify our commitment to addressing critical global challenges through specialized expertise, passion, and dedication.

Rotary Action Groups are global, grassroots networks of Rotary members, family members, and Rotaractors who are experts in a particular field. They collaborate with clubs and districts to enhance service projects, offering guidance, support, and valuable resources. Each RAG focuses on a specific area of interest, such as water and sanitation, health care, environmental sustainability, or, as in the case of the Alzheimer’s / Dementia Rotary Action Group (ADRAG), supporting those affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Why are Rotary Action Groups important?

  1. Specialized Expertise: RAG members are often professionals or enthusiasts with extensive knowledge in their respective fields. This expertise enables them to provide in-depth insights, technical assistance, and innovative solutions to clubs and districts working on related projects.

  2. Enhanced Project Impact: By leveraging the skills and experience of RAG members, Rotary clubs can significantly amplify the impact of their projects. RAGs help ensure that initiatives are well-planned, effectively executed, and sustainable.

  3. Global Collaboration: RAGs foster international cooperation by connecting members from around the world. This global network allows for the sharing of best practices, resources, and ideas, creating a more substantial collective impact.

  4. Advocacy and Awareness: RAGs play a crucial role in raising awareness about specific issues and advocating for change. They help educate communities, influence policy, and mobilize resources to address pressing global challenges.

As the Public Image Officer for the Alzheimer’s / Dementia Rotary Action Group, I have witnessed firsthand the incredible difference that dedicated Rotarians can make in the lives of those affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia. ADRAG provides fundraising tools, support, and resources to Rotarians, ensuring that both local and global efforts receive the necessary backing to thrive.

I encourage every Rotarian to explore the various Rotary Action Groups and consider joining one that aligns with your passion and expertise. Your involvement can lead to more impactful service projects, deeper community connections, and a more significant global presence for Rotary.

Together, through the power of Rotary Action Groups, we can continue to make a profound difference in our communities and the world.

Yours in Rotary Service,

Chris Nakea
