On April 17, the University Sunrise Rotary presented Mainstay at Seattle Central College with a Rotary Grant of $18,167 for the “Computers for Careers” project. With generous gifts from Rotary Clubs from all around the Greater Seattle area including the University Sunrise Rotary, University District Rotary, Rotaract at the University of Washington, Mercer Island Rotary Club, Lake Forest Park Rotary, Ballard Rotary, and Rotary International District 5030, Mainstay will be able to purchase 9 specialized, laptop computers that will allow job seekers with disabilities and their staff process require documentation and complete the job development process with mobility and accommodation. “Computers for Careers” embodies Rotary’s commitment to Vocational Service, advancing employment access and equity.
Mainstay at Seattle Central College assists over 130 job seekers and supported workers per year to reach their employment goals in occupations and communities of their choice. Mainstay supported workers earn some of the highest wages comparable to other workers with disabilities in Washington State, and their average length of employment is over 8 years. The “Computer for Careers” will help staff to meet clients and their families where they are to increase ease and access to meeting accreditation requirements. Mainstay at Seattle Central College believes in “Real Jobs. Real Wages. Full Lives.” We are deeply grateful to the Rotary community for helping us bring that vision to life.
