It is with deep sadness that we share the news that SangKoo Yun, Rotary International President-Elect for the 2026–27 Rotary year, passed away on September 5, 2025, at the age of 75.
Yun, a distinguished member of the Rotary Club of Sae Hanyang in Seoul, South Korea, had only recently stepped down from his role as President-Elect due to health reasons. He was preparing to serve as only the second South Korean Rotarian in history to hold Rotary’s highest office.
A Visionary Leader in Rotary and Beyond
Throughout his decades of service, Yun’s leadership left a lasting mark on Rotary. He served as Rotary International Director, trustee, committee chair, and facilitator, guiding important initiatives with wisdom and dedication. Beyond Rotary, his leadership was recognized worldwide: he was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, received Mongolia’s Friendship Medal, and was honored by South Korea’s president and prime minister for his distinguished contributions to society.
Yun’s vision for Rotary emphasized strengthening Rotary’s global community, expanding opportunities for service, and inspiring members to continue the legacy of “Service Above Self.” His passion, commitment, and spirit of innovation will continue to guide Rotarians worldwide.
A Global Loss Felt Locally
As members of District 5030, we join the international Rotary family in mourning this profound loss. President-Elect Yun’s life serves as a reminder of Rotary’s power to unite people across cultures and borders in service to humanity.
Rotary International has expressed its deepest condolences to Yun’s family, and Rotarians everywhere are honoring his legacy by carrying forward his spirit of service, compassion, and leadership.
✨ We encourage our members to take a moment to reflect on the extraordinary life of President-Elect Yun and the enduring impact of his service. His legacy will continue to inspire us as we move forward together, united in Rotary’s mission of creating hope in the world.
