In a nation as abundant as ours, hunger remains a silent crisis—impacting millions of families, seniors, and children every day. Through this year’s Hunger Strike campaign, Rotary clubs across Washington and beyond are rallying behind two remarkable organizations leading the charge against food insecurity: Harvest Against Hunger and Share Our Strength, the nonprofit behind the national movement No Kid Hungry. Together, they represent the heart of this campaign, sharing in 50% of all funds raised to help ensure that no family goes without a meal.
Harvest Against Hunger: Turning Abundance into Access
For more than three decades, Harvest Against Hunger (HAH) has been a vital bridge between farmers, food producers, and hunger relief programs. Based in Washington State, the organization’s mission is simple yet powerful—to redirect surplus produce and nutritious food to those who need it most.
Through partnerships with local growers, distributors, and community food programs, Harvest Against Hunger has distributed tens of millions of pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables that would have otherwise gone to waste. Their innovative model not only feeds families—it supports sustainable farming, strengthens community food systems, and promotes dignity in access to healthy food.
“Food is never just food,” says the HAH team. “It’s a connection between people, communities, and the hope that we can end hunger together.”
As the main beneficiary of Hunger Strike, Harvest Against Hunger embodies the spirit of Rotary service—local, impactful, and community-driven. Their proven track record across Washington State has made them a trusted leader in the fight against hunger, and this partnership expands that impact nationwide.
Share Our Strength: The Force Behind No Kid Hungry
Joining forces with Harvest Against Hunger this year is Share Our Strength, the national nonprofit powering the No Kid Hungry campaign. Founded in 1984, Share Our Strength has become one of America’s most respected and effective organizations in the fight against childhood hunger.
No Kid Hungry focuses on ending childhood hunger in the United States by ensuring every child has access to healthy food where they live, learn, and play. Through programs that connect children to school breakfasts, summer meals, and afterschool food programs—and by working with policymakers, schools, and communities—they’ve helped reduce child hunger rates across the country.
In 2023 alone, No Kid Hungry helped provide access to more than 1 billion meals to children in need, combining innovation, advocacy, and community partnerships to drive measurable results. Their collaboration with Harvest Against Hunger and Rotary’s Hunger Strike creates a united front against one of the most solvable issues of our time.
A Powerful Alliance for Change
Together, Harvest Against Hunger and No Kid Hungry form a dynamic partnership—one that blends local action with national reach. Funds raised through Hunger Strike support both the distribution of fresh, healthy food to families today and the development of long-term solutions to end childhood hunger for good.
As communities, Rotary clubs, and businesses come together for Hunger Strike, they’re not just fundraising—they’re joining a movement that’s transforming lives across Washington and the nation.
