Celebrating Service: Mike Madden Named District 5030 Rotarian of the Year at WWDC26

Last month, our successful district conference – which was defined by inspiration, connection, and a sold-out crowd, one moment stood out above the rest.

Surrounded by over 325 Rotarians who share a passion for service, District 5030 proudly recognized Mike Madden as our Rotarian of the Year—an honor that reflects not just a single year of impact, but a legacy of leadership that has shaped generations.

Mike’s name has become synonymous with Youth Services across the district. For years, he has been a steady, guiding force behind programs that don’t just engage young people—they transform them. Whether through leadership development, international exchange, or hands-on service opportunities, Mike has helped create pathways for young leaders to discover their voice and their purpose.

At the conference, as his name was announced, the room responded with the kind of applause and shouts of joy not just from the students at his table or his University Sunrise home club table nearby, but the entire ballroom. This was not a surprise—it was a shared acknowledgment. A recognition that Mike’s leadership has quietly, steadily elevated the entire district.

Youth Services is one of Rotary’s most powerful avenues for long-term impact. By investing in young people, we invest in the future of our communities and our world. Mike Madden has not only understood that—he has lived it.

As District 5030 celebrates this well-deserved honor, we also celebrate the ripple effect of Mike’s work: the students who became leaders, the programs that continue to grow, and the culture of mentorship and service that defines who we are.

Congratulations, Mike. Your leadership lights the way for all of us. Being able to recognize your service to the youth across the Pacific NW is one of the top highlights of my year as DG.

Yours in Rotary Service,

Jeff
