Last fall, University Sunrise Rotary announced its third project, in partnership with local NGO Technology and Information for All (TINFA), to bring computer equipment and training to teachers in underserved local schools in Guatemala. We were joined by fifteen amazing partner clubs, thirteen from our district, the local host club, Club Rotario Los Altos of Quetzaltenango, and even Calgary Heritage Rotary Club of Alberta, Canada. We launched the project early this year.
On August 5th, participating teachers gathered virtually to demonstrate their newly acquired skills to one another. There was a lot of pride, enthusiasm, occasional tech. glitches and impressive lessons on biology, math, grammar and more. Teachers gave each other tips and feedback and all celebrated achieving a significant milestone in their training.
Profe Julio Sanchez passionately shared that he had spoken with teachers outside the project who are eager to use the tools he is learning to strengthen their classroom instruction. Speaking in English, he said, “Please, please continue the work you do to bring these skills to more teachers here!”
It is truly a privilege to support these teachers who are so eager to enhance their teaching methods to reach students more effectively.
