The Rotary Club of West Seattle received 79 instrument donations and 1 cash donation ($20) in connection with the August 8, 2026 community donation day to benefit Music4Life, held at KeyBank in the Alaska Junction. Our community really came through to promote music education, giving the instruments another life in the hands of public school students in the greater Seattle area. This offers opportunities to many more students, especially those for whom acquiring an instrument would be out of reach and thus enhances their lives and education.
Partnering with Music4Life, the instruments received will then be refurbished as needed and given directly to students in the partner districts. Not only is it a wonderful project for the recipients and teachers but also such a satisfying undertaking for those donating very special instruments that they themselves cherished and played.
Our club received this letter after the donation drive:
“I am so thrilled to hear your drive went well and grateful to hear the flute will go on to create new music with another child. BTW, many years ago, I was a recipient of a Rotary scholarship to attend a 4-year university. I grew up in Michigan and that scholarship allowed me to go to the University of Michigan. I am deeply grateful of the service the Rotary Club brings to our communities. Linda”
Our participating members were overwhelmed with the outpouring of support and had fun seeing the variety of donations, from piccolo to didgeridoo, saxophone to mandolin, a feast for music lovers.
The community service work of the Rotary Club of West Seattle strongly emphasizes our commitment to youth development in projects such as this.
